At the office of Comfort Dental Care, your oral health is our top priority. While it is always our goal to protect your natural teeth, sometimes we have to extract or remove a tooth in the best interest of your dental health. Though an extraction may not sound like a pleasant procedure to undergo, we try and make it as comfortable as possible.
A tooth may need to be extracted for a variety of reasons including decay, irreparable damage, gum disease, in preparation for orthodontic treatment or wisdom tooth impaction. Whatever the reason for extraction may be, it is always good to start t with an X-ray of the site to gauge the position of the tooth and to determine the best way to extract it.
Local anesthesia will be administered at the site to numb the area and prevent you from feeling pain. We also offer sedation options in the form of laughing gas and oral sedation. Once the necessary anesthesia has been provided, we use dental instruments to open up the gum tissue over the tooth and remove any bone covering the tooth. The tooth is then gently rocked out of its position. Once the tooth is out, the area is cleaned and stitched. A gauze pad is placed over the site so that bleeding can be controlled.
Most people recover from the effects of the procedure within a few days. We will provide detailed instructions on how you can take care of the extraction site to allow proper healing. You can also ask us about what the best tooth replacement options could be once the site has healed.
